Are you ready?
A Coast Guard physical fitness test is coming. You should start preparing now instead of waiting for the test to become official.
While I don’t know the specifics of the test, I have heard talk of push-ups, crunches, running, and pull-ups. Of course we will have to wait for official guidance that outlines the details of the test.
Regardless, now is the time to prepare.
Get up and start moving. Most fitness assessments test a person’s muscular strength and cardiovascular fitness. So, if you only do cardio it is time to add some strength training. And if you go to the gym and pick up and put down heavy objects, it is time to lace up those running shoes. And for those who don’t do any physical activity except walk from the television to the fridge, it is time to start moving.
When the fitness test becomes official it will be part of the new Coast Guard standard. It is simple math, pass the test and you are in standard, fail the test and you are out of standard. While it is too early to presume it will be a retention requirement, other services do have a requirement to pass a fitness assessment to stay in.
Don’t be caught unprepared. There has been talk of a test for quite a few months. Stand up, get up, and start moving that body so you are ready when the Coast Guard fitness test is official.
