My latest injury- rolling my ankle. Ironic I was out doing something I thought was good for me, running. Instead of reaping the health benefits, I am sporting an ankle brace, swollen piggies, and crutches.
I’ve been on crutches since Tuesday. For the past 5 days, I’ve had to learn how to do laundry and cook on one leg. I’ve learned how to get into and out of the shower with the assistance of toilet and the side of the tub. I’ve learned to carry my food and drinks while still using crutches. And I’ve learned how to drive with my left foot.
It’s been a few years since I’ve been sidelined like this. I forgot how difficult it is to manage day-to-day activities. What is even more interesting is just how exhausting it all is. After a short stint of cooking, bathing, and folding laundry I am wiped out and ready for a nap.
In a few more weeks I will be walking crutch free. And in a few months I will be back to surfing and running. Being injured is inconvenient, uncomfortable, and exhausting. But I have to remember for me, this injury is just temporary.
