In 2009 I signed up for the Disney Half Marathon. Prior to that I’d never really done any sort of running races. I’m not sure why I decided to start with a half marathon. Most people begin their running with a 5k, maybe a 10k. Not me I jumped right.
That race ended up being the first of many marathons, half marathons, 10 milers, 10 ks, 5 milers, 5 ks, and mud runs. Last February an injury sidelined me from running. So I’ve been spending most of my time in the water- surfing and paddling (which I LOVE). Next weekend I get to combine my love of racing with my love of paddling.
A few weeks ago I read a blog about someone who tried doing a SUP race. I commented about how fun that looked and she said that there was a race in Providence. Of course I had to check it out, and after a week or so of hemming and hawing, trying to decide if I would sign up, I finally committed.
Since I’ve never done an event like this, I have the same nervousness I did before my first road race. I have no idea what to expect. But I knew that I would regret not trying. At least I learned one thing from the Disney Marathon; I don’t have to start with such a long distance. This time I signed up for the short course.
