Another week and the drill instructor refused to let the platoon unfurl their guidon. Three weeks passed since the group came together and depriving them of this one privilege was enough to break them. Group leaders began to throw insults and blame at each other. It was on the verge of fisticuffs when one of the quietest and unassuming members of the group finally spoke up as the other only voice of reason. “Did it ever occur to you that he wants us to break apart? This is the time for us to come together.”
We would like to say reason prevailed, but instead the scene turned to chaos. Blows were thrown, noses and ribs broken. In the end no lesson was learned.
